RBMA Signature Events
Rainier BAAMFest (Beach Arts & Music Fest) is the FREE signature event of the Rainier Beach Merchants Association and the next generation of community arts celebration in Rainier Beach! Focusing on the rich diversity of cultures and creativity in our midst, a high level of community involvement is at the base of planning and execution of the event which gets bigger and badder every year!
BAAMFest 2017 drew crowds that some estimated were 10,000 Strong. Positive press coverage reached an all-time high for Rainier Beach as a result of this event, and the community is anticipating another excellent event in 2017.
This event is produced through grants, donations from local businesses, and private sponsorship.
THIS YEAR BAAMFEST TAKES PLACE ON SATURDAY, JULY 22ND from 11 AM to 7 PM on the Rainier Beach Community Center Plaza.
STP Hydration Station
Rainier Beach is a beautiful, safe place, for everyone, and we help show it off to tens of thousands of cyclists each July with our pop-up STP Hydration Station across from Beer Sheva Park during the annual Seattle-to-Portland Classic (STP) bike ride. We welcome cyclists by cheering them on, providing water, filling water bottles, offering up road snacks, and having a BLAST while they take a breather, and experience our stunning community!
This year’s event will be Saturday, July 15th! We meet in front of Rainier Beach High School starting at 6 AM. There WILL be donuts!
Light Up the Beach Holiday Challenge
How do we brighten our community during the darkest winter days? We challenge our storefronts to dress up for the holidays for the Light Up the Beach Holiday Challenge! Local businesses throw open their doors and offer hospitality during an open house the first Friday in December, win the hearts of community members, and compete for awards!
During this culturally inclusive event, attendees are issued a passport to locations which offer up food, music, massage, crafts, and a FREE PHOTO WITH SANTA!
Rainier Beach High School Homecoming Tailgate BBQ
Back in 2014, the RBMA wanted to show support for the great youth at Rainier Beach High School in a way that celebrated their important place in the community. Members reached out to the Associated Student Body youth leadership team and a partnership was born to bring a tailgate party BBQ to the RBHS Vikings on Homecoming day.
RBMA members fire up BBQs and Safeway donates enough food to feed a football team – and much of the RBHS community of students, parents, and staff. Programming is determined by the students and a great time prepping for the homecoming game is had by all! Not only is the bond strengthened between youth and local business leaders, but so far the Vikings have won EVERY homecoming since the beginning of this tradition. Go Vikes!
